Nora Smart Turns 100
The Honourable Jeff Kibble, MP for Cowichan—Malahat—Langford and himself a veteran, joined the Malahat Legion in celebrating Life Member Nora Smart turns 100 on the occasion of her 100th birthday. Nora turned 100 on December 21, 2025, and to mark this remarkable milestone the Legion hosted a surprise party for her at the final meat draw of the year. She arrived to find a reserved table decorated with three two‑foot‑high red “100” balloons and a large professionally designed sign highlighting key events from the year she was born.
Contratulations Flow In
In advance of the celebration, the Legion arranged for official congratulatory messages to mark Nora’s centenary, in keeping with federal and provincial programs that recognize Canadians reaching milestone birthdays. Nora was invited to sit at the front of the hall so everyone could see her as these were presented. Malahat Legion Vice‑President Bob Cleroux read letters of congratulations from Mark Carney – Prime Minister of Canada, from Mary Simon, the 30th Governor General of Canada, and from King Charles III, whose greeting included a striking photograph of His Majesty and Queen Camilla
Jeff Presented Another
MP Jeff Kibble shared a personal story of joining Nora as she tagged poppies at the local Country Grocer, recalling how impressed he was that she cheerfully completed the full two‑hour shift—a pace that even Banff–Airdrie MP Blake Richards, Shadow Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, could not match. Jeff then presented Nora with a signed message of congratulations from The Honourable Pierre Poilievre.
We wish Nora continued good health and happiness, and sincerely hope she will be with us, inspiring members and guests alike, for many years to come.
