We Have Both Bursaries and Scholarships

COVID-19 Announcement

Regretfully, due to the COVID-19 crisis, we are able to support only Frances Kelsey Secondary School applications for trades bursaries this year.  Bursaries normally require approval from both the executive and at a general meeting.  Due to the social distancing we have not been able to do so.

Bursaries are still available to Frances Kelsey students as this was pre-approved last year.  Scholarships, as set out below, are also available as this is pre-approved by our South Vancouver Island Zone Organization.

Student Bursaries Support

The Malahat Legion supports bursaries for students:

  • If you reside in British Columbia or the Yukon and are a Canadian Citizen; and
  • The School or Campus is in British Columbia or the Yukon; and
  • Are full time for two consecutive years.
Preference will be given to:
  • Students who attend or are graduating from Frances Kelsey School; or
  •  Students who have a relative serving or have served in the military, police or RCMP.

If you are interested please download the application form using the button below.  Drop it off at the legion.  Or you can scan it and return it as an attachment in Contact Us.  Do not fill in the financial information.  This is confidential and must be completed by the Branch interviewer.

Scholarships

The Legion South Vancouver Island Zone has a Sir Percy Lake Memorial Scholarship.  It is open to all students.  No Legion or Military association is needed.

The amount of the Scholarship is $2,000.00 and is sponsored by all Legion Branches in the South Vancouver Island Zone.

Scholarship Eligibility

To be eligible, a Senior Secondary Student must be accepted in their first year to the University of Victoria, or Royal Roads Campus or Vancouver Island University: Nanaimo and Cowichan Campus starting in the year the scholarship is presented. The scholarship can only be held over to the 2nd semester, at which time if not used, the scholarship will be forfeited. The student must be a resident of the area encompassed by South Vancouver Island Zone of the Royal Canadian Legion.
