2026 Walter Hall Fishing Derby

Get ready for a fin-tastic Walter Hall Fishing Derby celebration! Join our 2026 Walter Hall Fishing Day, a fun-filled event for the whole family. Open to adults and youths (12 and under), the derby offers exciting prizes for enthusiastic anglers. Your entry fee includes a tasty meal: a cheeseburger, chips, and can soda drink for adults, or a hot dog, chips, and pop for youths. Plus, weigh in your catch and enjoy priority prize selection! Our bar will be open for adults seeking alternative drinks. Make lasting memories with your kids or grandkids on this special day. Simple rules apply, and catch-and-release fishing is also an option – see below for details.

2025 Walter Hall Fishing Derby

When and Where

Our event is held Saturday, the day before father’s day.

  • When: Saturday, June 20th 2026
  • Where:  Malahat Legion – 1625 Shawnigan Lake-Mill Bay Road.
  • Start time: Early as you want but see the rules below
  • End Time: Weigh-in closes at 2:00 PM sharp. Prize ceremony starts 3:30 PM
  • Pick up your tickets at the bar anytime beginning Friday, June 19th at 1 PM. 

Entry Fee

Early bird fee below. After Saturday, June 13th tickets will be $2 higher.

  • Adults: $23
  • Youth (12 and under): $8
  • Tickets may be picked up at the Legion bar starting Friday, June 19th.

Can I Catch and Release?

Sure.  Just lay your tape and take a picture of the length “A” and girth “B” and bring both in and show it to us.  We recommend using a flexible tape as shown. We will use the formula on Trout Unlimited’s Website to estimate how much your fish weights.  We’ve found this to be pretty accurate.

Rules

Yes, we have a few rules to ensure everybody has a level playing field.

  1. We only accept fish caught in Shawnigan Lake the same day.
  2. You must check in at the weigh-in station between 10 AM and 2 PM.
  3. The weigh station is at Shawnigan Wharf Park. (See attached map).

Note: Paying by electronic transfer or at the bar?  Please include the reservation number. It helps identify who paid.
