President Gifted Legionnaire of the Year Award

Isabelle Hammer, President of The Malahat Legion, Branch 134 in Shawnigan Lake, BC, was gifted with a Legionnaire of the Year award at the Lapel Pin ceremony on Sunday, April 27th, 2025. The award recognizes Isabelle’s six consecutive years as president of the Legion. Vice President Bob Cleroux noted that over the 90 years since the Legion was established, there have been 41 presidents – an average of a little more than 2 years of service each. With 6 years, Isabelle joins a distinct group with only one other president serving 6 years or more.

You might notice the crest feature is in French, reflecting Isabelle’s roots from Quebec. After retiring as an RCMP veteran member, Isabelle joined the Malahat Legion in 2019. She brings her flair for French haute cuisine to the Legion, organizing kitchen meals and creating high-end dishes like prime rib with Yorkshire pudding for catering events. The Legion wanted to recognize Isabelle’s contributions in a tangible way and considers making this award an annual tradition.
