8th Annual Vancouver Island Wounded Warriors Run

News Flash

March 22, 2021 – An update from the Wounded Warriors publications desk.

If you have been following Dr. Bonnie Henry and her team you will know that many of the protocols from Covid, including the travel restrictions have not been lifted yet and are quite likely to continue into the summer. Thus we have found the need to officially cancel this years Wounded Warrior Run BC. Many different models and modifications were thought about to allow the run to continue but for the level of planning and professionalism we need, all scenarios came up lacking. To postpone it further would only begin a conflict with the 2022 Run.

The Vancouver Island Wounded Warriors Run

Since 2013 the Vancouver Island Wounded Warriors Run is a team of eight dedicated runners who will run relay-style the length of Vancouver Island in just eight consecutive days, covering more than 600 kms. The run will begin in Port Hardy on Sunday April 11th, 2021 and end in Victoria on Sunday, April 18th, 2021.

The Wounded Warrior Run BC was created to bring awareness and raise funds for Wounded Warriors Canada. Their motto:

To honour and support Canada’s ill and injured Canadian Armed Forces members, Veterans, First Responders and their families.

The Malahat Legion is Helping

It’s traditional for the runners to arrive at the Malahat Legion on Saturday just after the meat draw.  That will be Saturday, February 27th, 2021 this year.  We are hoping that Covid-19 lockdown rules will be relaxed by that date and we can welcome the runners with our traditional bowl of chilli and a large donation from the Legion.  Last year, the Legion gave a cheque for $1,020 to the runners.  In addition a number of local organizations such as the Defenders Motorcycle club and the Mill Bay Lions Club also gave cheques to the runners.  In total runners left the next day with over $4,653.

You Can Help Too
